UK Hotel Quarantine Food Diary Day 8 - Back on Track

UK Hotel Quarantine London Food Blog: Day 8 Wednesday Menu v2

Breakfast

Breakfast at Holiday Inn quarantine hotel

Todays pastry (croissant) was missing from the breakfast bag, although it did have both fresh fruit and what now seems to be the standard boiled eggs & cheese as the hot meal replacement (which does make me wonder about why there was no fruit yesterday, not that it was a problem). Thankfully after a quick call to a very friendly sounding room service the hotel kitchen sent up 2 croissants - score! The verdict is still out on toffee flavoured yogurt with the fruit salad, but then I wouldn’t ever choose a toffee flavoured yogurt so I am sure some people would love it.

Lunch

Another disappointing lunch I am afraid, it was OK but not great. The soup was cold (possibly this is due to the change in the order of which floors are served first?) and the usually warm and crispy roll was cold and had a thumb and finger clearly imprinted on it which was not particularly appetising.

The first challenge of the Cheddar and Mushroom Croque Monsieur was breaking in through the packaging. Once I did break in I could see that there was plenty of cheese filling which actually overpowered the mushrooms. Unfortunately it did get cold very quickly, but I am not sure what could be done to prevent this when serving so many people via room service at once.

Dinner

So we are now into the repeat menus from last week, yesterday I took a chance on the vegetarian option having not enjoyed last weeks steak pie, however last weeks salmon was delicious so I was really looking forward to a repeat of this.

Compared to last week the fish was slightly overcooked, and there was an overpowering flavour of cajun which burnt the lips and mouth. The potatoes were slightly oversalted for my taste but were rich and creamy, and the runner beans were nicer than last week with a lovely flavour and very juicy, even if they did have a slight cajun aftertaste. It was still a very enjoyable meal overall though, and I would eat it again.

The Raspberry Tart was nice, with an almond sponge on top. The bottom layer I think was pastry, it was either a very thick layer of pastry which had been cooked well or a not very spongy sponge layer.

I had requested that my lunch time fizzy drink be replaced with a fruit juice if possible, this had not happened however it appeared that the J2O this evening had been replaced by not just one but 2 fruit juices. Not sure if this is a one off for everyone or a confusion of my special request.
